PROCESSING RAW JAMAICAN PURPLE SEA MOSS

Use only spring water or filtered water for this process. Do not use tap water to process sea moss, there are many toxins in tap water that will devalue the nutrients in the sea moss.

Needs:

  • Dried Sea Moss

  • Spring water (for washing, soaking and mixing)

  • Bowls or calabash for holding

  • Blender 

Instructions

  • With spring or filtered water, rinse your sea moss THOROUGHLY with spring water. This sea moss is fresh and straight from the ocean so it contains sand and other particles that you will need to wash out.

  • Be sure to run your fingers through the sea moss to remove any trapped particles.

  • Place the sea moss in a bowl and cover with fresh spring water.

  • Cover at room temp for 12-24 hours or up to three days in the fridge.

  • Pour off the water and give the sea moss another rinsing with spring water.

  • At this stage you can use sea moss like this in your daily eating. It is helpful to turn the sea moss into a gel to make it easier to consume, and use it as a natural thickening agent in your dishes.

To Make Gel

For every 1 oz Dried Raw Sea Moss (about 29 grams when weighed) add about 1 cup fresh water.

  • Place the soaked sea moss in a blender fresh water.

  • Blend until desired texture is reached, about 1-3min

  • Place sea moss gel in an airtight, sterile container and refrigerator for up to 3 weeks- 1 month. 

  • Freeze in ice cube trays for many months.
