Copper, Brass and Sterling Silver CARE.

Take Care of the metal spirits, And they will take care of you!

Copper/Brass and Silver are healing elements that present themselves in metal form. How cool! To receive the most healing benefits from them, its best to keep them raw and not sealed. Raw Copper, Brass and Sterling silver will all patina, or tarnish/darken, over time depending on the elements they are exposed to. In the case of copper/brass it can also turn green/blue/brown when exposed to water, salt and chemicals.

Keeping Your Metals Shiny-

Each piece comes with a polishing cloth, which you can use to polish as much as you would like. If you wish to keep your pieces as un-oxidized as possible, do not wear them while in the shower, swimming, while sweating heavily, or around harsh chemicals. Store them in dry conditions (not in the same place you shower). Dry off jewelry after washing your hands or applying any lotion, soap, or spray/mists. If possible, wipe with a polishing cloth when storing it after wearing.

A very tarnished piece of copper, brass, or sterling silver can usually be polished to a smooth shine, so please contact me if your piece is in need of serious cleaning. I can aid you with simple products from your home, or you can ship it to me and I can re-polish it. Do NOT put store bought chemical cleaners, such as Penny Brite, on your jewelry :)

——————————————————————————

If you wish to keep your piece shiny but do not have the access or physical/mental ability to care for your piece I am happy to clean and upkeep your piece periodically free if you cover shipping.

You can also seal your brass and copper jewelry to prevent it from developing a patina, or if you would like to prevent the inside of rings or other tight fitting jewelry oxidizing on your skin and turning it green/brown. If you wish to seal your piece, please see section below about sealing.

Patina is a reaction from the everyday elements like the minerals/toxins in the air, water, the oils in our skin, etc. Many people like the way in which a patina looks on various metals, and if so you can live with your piece and watch it develop a beautiful age over time, or purposefully aid in the patina of your piece by exposing it to the elements and not polishing.

Sterling silver patinas much slower than copper/brass, and will most likely need to just be polished every so often.

To me, the benefits of raw metal jewelry are worth the upkeep of the piece, but sometimes we need that layer of protection!

You can Seal the surface of raw metals to prevent patina.

I prefer to use Renaissance wax as a sealant, and am able to seal any piece for a small fee. It is used by museum curators to keep pieces looking good, but it will ware off over time if used in high rub areas like rings or back of chains. It need to be re-applied once or twice per year depending on wear. If you would like a piece with a high shine finish and zero upkeep over its lifetime I can seal any piece with a thin acrylic clear finish for a fee as well.

If you would like your piece sealed, please add SEALANT item in the shopping section into cart and choose material.

METALS

I use metals that have all been harvested from Turtle Island (land currently called the U.S.). I use 99.9% copper, brass that is 85% copper and 15% zinc, and 95.2% (925) sterling silver. All gems and crystals are sustainably sourced, and all pieces with seashells are found by myself on beaches across the world.

I am working to find metals mined most sustainably and closely to me as possible as well as building the tools to use recycled metals, semi precious gems, and other earth elements.

Physical and Metaphysical Metal Information

Copper and Brass

Copper is an essential earth element that has ancient ancestral connections. It has been essential for many indigenous cultures physical and spiritual health. Brass is an alloy of copper made with a smaller amount of Zinc. We can absorb copper many different ways, through the foods we eat or internally in compounds, and externally through proximity to the element. Copper is a strong balancing element, working with your physical and spiritual body to open space for healing, energetic connection between entities (in whatever realm), and shedding of negative energy among many other properties. Copper and brass will boost your courage, and help you connect your inner-self(s) to their truth.

It works with Iron in your body to make red blood cells and helps your body regulate blood flow and draws out toxins. Great for those experiencing arthritis, joint pain, inflammation (another reason I work with metals) and is anti-microbial! Great for protecting against viruses.

Wearing copper and brass jewelry is a great way to get steady and small amounts of copper absorption daily. Copper poisoning can happen but is rare, and often due to long term high density exposure (working in environments with long term exposure or very poor conditions in housing with copper piping, etc). Always start slow and monitor your health when starting new medicinal regimes. If you have a doctor to talk too, that’s great too.

Raw copper and brass will patina (turn darker) over time. Some prefer the look of a patina but you can keep your copper and brass piece shiny if you prefer by following steps in the care section. Copper and brass will also turn your skin colors if worn tight to the skin (mostly in rings). It oxidizes with the air as it combines with the oils of your skin, salt of your sweat and any lotions or soaps. The skin color change is harmless, washes off with soap and water, and actually can be a sign of the toxins that are inside your body trying to get out thru your skin. I use my raw copper and brass rings to monitor how much my body is able to draw out impurities that day.

Brass

Brass is an alloy of copper mixed with zinc to make its distinct and scrumptious gold color. All the same properties that copper has, brass has. Plus zinc, which is a needed element for our immune system, metabolism and wound healing.

My Yoruba ancestors really turnt out the best art and spiritual pieces for Creator and Kings with some brass and copper. We also used to use it as currency and countless other ways.

Gotta be grateful for the this healing metal spirit.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is a lovely alloy that is typically 92.5% fine silver and the rest is made up by another alloy, usually copper. Fine silver does not hold up well to everyday wear, so sterling silver is where its at with long term, everyday durability.

Sliver is full of physical and spiritual properties that are ancient and ancestral. It helps your red blood cells retain elasticity and aids in wound healing and bone production. Its Anti-microbial and good for sterilization, and will help you reduce exposure to electromagnetic radiation (cellphones, wifi, ect).

Silver is a metal that likes to stick with the ones it connects with for long times. Invest in some sterling pieces and keep them for a long time and they will serve you well if you take good care of them. Silver is an astral conductor, and working with the moon it will help in protection against negative energy and spells. It helps us endure and practice perseverance, and is a strong psychic stimulant. It helps aid other earth elements such as stones and minerals in strengthening their powers.

Sterling will tarnish over time, but much more slowly than copper/brass. Check out the care section for tips on keeping it shiny if you don’t like the patina.

I wear sterling and copper/brass together to create some really lovely, healing physical and spiritual connections on the daily.

GEMstones & universal elements

I love to use gemstones and other elements in my pieces. Each gemstone or universal elements have their own properties, and I am excited to share what I have learned about the metaphysical properties of any gemstones that are in a piece, and share resources for more information. Gemstones and Universal elements can be helpful for endless different parts of our daily existence, and wearing them in our adornments is a perfect way to pair them with metal conductors and make it easy for us to carry them with us everyday.

Wearing gemstones and metal for metaphysical reason is an ancient practice, with endless different cultural and indigenous meanings to each stone and element depending on place and time.

Every gemstone or universal element is different in hardness and durability. General care tips are to never wear your gemstone jewelry in the shower, pool, while washing hands (if possible!), while cleaning with harsh chemicals, or doing any physical activity where you could easily create a direct force that could chip the stone like working with power tools or skateboarding. Use your jewelry cloth to polish the gems up when you polish the metal as well.

As a small jeweler, I do my best to purchase stones from reputable sources, and am always excited when I am able to find sources of earth elements I can track back to the mining process. I use many earth elements that I have harvested myself and am always excited to focus on sustainability and human and earth centered approaches as much as possible. If you have any questions about the gemstones or universal elements I use please feel free to contact me.

I am always happy to use gemstones or elements you already have and create a custom piece for you with them.
